Salem Five Teams Up with Radio Station 92.5 the River
Competition Spotlights Local Music Talent and Supports Music Education in Schools
Salem, Mass., October 18, 2017 – Salem Five is pleased to announce that is has once again partnered with radio station 92.5 the River to host the 2017 Music Matters competition, an initiative that supports music education in local schools.
The competition is open to high school student musicians and singer-songwriters. Interested students can submit a video performance of their original song, along with an explanation of why music is important to them, for a chance to win $1,500 for their school’s music department. The winner will also have the opportunity to open at Riverfeast and record their original song at the legendary River Music Hall in Haverhill. Riverfeast is the radio station’s annual benefit concert for the Greater Boston Food Bank, for which Salem Five is a presenting sponsor.
“Music Matters is more than just a competition, it’s a program that helps strengthen and expand music education in area schools,” said Jim Nelson, chief marketing officer, Salem Five. “We’re incredibly proud of the opportunities that our partnership with The River has created for the students and our communities, not to mention—it’s really fun.”
“We’ve seen some exceptionally talented young musicians come through the Music Matters competition, and I can’t wait to see the entries we receive this year,” said Donald St. Sauveur, general manager of 92.5 The River. “Creating music is an amazing outlet for students, and we remain dedicated to keeping music programs in our local schools through our partnership with Salem Five.”
