Salem Five Charitable Foundation Surprises Non-Profits with Donations

Organizations split $27,500 through the Bank’s “Make a Difference in December” Program

Salem, MA., December 20, 2021 – The Salem Five Charitable Foundation has awarded $27,500 to 11 different not-for-profit organizations that provide food and other social services to needy people and families, the Bank announced today.

The “Make a Difference in December” Program identifies organizations that did not receive grants from the Foundation during the calendar year, yet whose track record of helping people is well established – making them eligible to each receive a $2,500 donation.

“There are many great organizations making our communities a better place to work and live, so we use this program to make sure we are supporting organizations that truly improve peoples’ lives,” said Salem Five President and CEO Ping Yin Chai.  “It is a privilege to support these organizations, particularly during the season of giving.”

The following organizations received grants from the Salem Five Charitable Foundation:

  • Acord Food Pantry, Hamilton
  • People Helping People, Burlington
  • The First Congregational Church in Stoneham/God’s Helping Hand Food Pantry, Stoneham
  • The Open Pantry of Greater Lowell, Lowell
  • Bread of Life, Malden
  • Needham Community Council (Food Pantry), Needham
  • The Sudbury Community Food Pantry, Sudbury
  • Lynn Shelter Association, Lynn
  • Plummer Youth Promise, Salem
  • The Caleb Group, Swampscott
  • Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Lawrence
