First you’ll need to request enrollment in online banking. Once you have completed enrollment, you will have access to People Pay within online banking and the mobile app within one business day.
How It Works On The Salem Five Mobile App
Select "People Pay" from the side navigation.
Enter the recipient's full name, email or mobile phone number and amount to send.
Choose which account you'd like to fund the payment and how you'd like them to receive payment:
a) Send to email or mobile number (FREE)
b) Deposit to bank account ($0.50)
c) Send instantly through Paypal ($0.50)
Enter a personal message if you like and you're done!
When you send money, you'll get a confirmation, and the recipient gets an email or text message with instructions on how to claim the money.
What is Salem Five People Pay?
People Pay is a secure way to send money from your eligible Salem Five deposit account to anyone with a bank account in the United States.
How does a People Pay payment work?
All you need to send a personal payment is the email address or mobile phone number of the person to whom you wish to send funds. After you schedule a payment, the recipient is sent an email or text message with instructions to claim the funds. If the recipient is already enrolled in People Pay or has saved their account information within People Pay, the funds can be deposited into their account in as little as one business day.
How do I sign up for People Pay?
If you have Online Banking for your personal accounts at Salem Five, you are eligible to use People Pay. If money is sent to you and it matches the email address you have on file, the funds will be deposited into your checking or money market account automatically. To send money, simply select the "People Pay" link in the mobile app or in online banking.
Why don't I see People Pay in the Salem Five mobile app?
You need to enroll in People Pay on your desktop computer or tablet within online banking before you will see the People Pay link in your mobile app. Please allow up to one business day until People Pay appears in your mobile app. See instructions above for details
Can I use People Pay on the mobile website?
Currently People Pay is only available within Salem Five’s mobile banking app and within online banking on desktop computers and tablets. You can download our mobile app for free in the App Store or Google Play.
How do I send my first payment to someone?
First, you’ll need to enroll in People Pay. Then simply follow the instructions above under “How It Works” to send a payment.
When does the payment come out of my account?
Any time you send funds through People Pay, the money is debited from your account the day the payment is sent. If the recipient does not claim the money within 10 days, the money will be credited back to your account.
What do I need to do when I receive my first payment from someone?
If you are a Salem Five online banking customer with an eligible deposit account and a valid email address on file, the funds will be deposited directly into your account if you are already enrolled in People Pay.
If you do not have an email address on file, or the email address/mobile number does not match the email address/mobile number to which the payment was sent, you will simply need log in to People Pay on the mobile app or through online banking on desktop, select "Settings" and add the email address or mobile number. Once the email address or mobile number has been confirmed, your payment will automatically be deposited into your account.
How much does the service cost?
There is no cost for Salem Five personal account online banking customers to enroll in People Pay. To send funds to an email or mobile phone there is no cost. To deposit funds into someone's bank account or to send instantly using PayPal, there is a convenience fee of $0.50 per transaction. The fee will be added to the amount of the payment and appear as two transactions in your online banking transaction history and monthly statement and will be listed as "Electronic Bill Payment". There is no cost to you when you receive funds through the service.
How quickly will a payment be received?
If the recipient is enrolled in Salem Five’s People Pay, money can be deposited into their checking account in as little as one business day. If they are not a Salem Five customer with People Pay, the money can be received in 1-3 business days after completing the transaction and claiming the funds. The recipient has 10 days to claim the funds. If funds are not claimed within 10 days, a refund of the payment will be issued to the sender and the receiver is no longer available to claim the funds.
Can I cancel a payment after I send it?
You may cancel a payment only if the recipient has not claimed the funds or they were not automatically deposited directly into their bank account. Your contact will be notified if you cancel a payment via email. If you have sent funds via Paypal to an email address not recognized by Paypal or they go unclaimed within Paypal, it could take up to 45 days for Paypal to refund your payment.
What type of confirmation do I get that my payment has been received and accepted?
You will receive a payment notification by email stating the date, amount and details documenting that your funds were sent. You may also see if the payment has been claimed by logging into online banking and selecting "Pay People" under the Pay and Transfer tab, and then looking at Incoming and Outgoing activity.
How long does someone have to claim a payment?
The recipient has 10 days to claim the funds. If funds are not claimed within 10 days, a refund of the payment will be issued to the sender.
Will the recipient be able to see my account information?
No, the recipient will not be able to see any corresponding personal information from the sender including email address or bank account information. They will only see the name of the sender in the notification.
How is People Pay different than using Bill Pay to pay someone?
Salem Five's Bill Pay service within online banking is generally designed for paying bills like utilities, services, mortgages, etc. Sending a payment to an individual using the traditional Bill Pay service can take up to five business days to arrive to the recipient and you must know their full mailing address because it is sent by check. People Pay allows you to send funds electronically using only an email address, mobile number, or bank account information of the person you wish to pay.
Can I use People Pay for payments outside of the United States?
No. Currently People Pay can only be used between bank accounts in the United States.
How will my People Pay transactions appear on my account statement?
People Pay transactions will appear as “Peoplepay Tran Debit XXXXXXXX (transaction number) PERSON TO PERSON PAYMENT TO JOHN SMITH (recipient’s name)”.
Is it free to send and receive an eGift Card?
Yes, it's free. There is no fee associated with sending or receiving an eGift Card and you can securely send to anyone with an email address, however the value of the card is deducted from the sender's People Pay funding account.
How does my contact receive the eGift Card?
Your contact is immediately sent an email or text which 1) lets them know who sent the eGift Card, and 2) includes a link that will take them to the merchant site where they can instantly redeem the eGift Card online or print it to use in stores or restaurants.
How do I send an eGift Card?
Sending an eGift Card is easy! Simply log into online banking on your desktop computer, click Pay People (or Pay and Transfer, then Pay People) and select the 'Send eGift Card' tab and click the 'Browse and select' link. Then, choose from a list of available eGift Card merchants and enter the appropriate information to get your eGift Card on its way.
You may also send eGift Cards from Salem Five's mobile banking app. Look for "eGifts" in the main menu once you've logged in to your account.
Why are there different denominations available to send for different merchants?
Available denominations are determined by each merchant. Some merchants allow you to pick any amount within a range of denominations (e.g., any amount from $5.00-$500.00), while other merchants only allow eGift Cards in incremental amounts (e.g., only $5.00, $10.00, $15.00, etc.).
Can I view a list of eGift Cards I have previously sent?
Yes, any eGift Cards that you have sent can be viewed in your Outgoing tab section.
