To Enroll:

  • Log into your Salem Five Online Banking
  • Select "Pay and Transfers" from the main navigation
  • Click "Pay People"
  • Review the Pay People Service Agreement

What is Salem Five Pay People?
Pay People is a secure way to send money from your eligible Salem Five deposit account to anyone with a bank account in the United States.

How does a Pay People payment work?
All you need to send a personal payment is the email address or mobile phone number of the person to whom you wish to send funds. After you schedule a payment, the recipient is sent an email or text message with instructions to claim the funds. If the recipient is already enrolled in Pay People or has saved their account information within Pay People, the funds can be deposited into their account in as little as one business day.

Can I use Pay People on the mobile website?

How do I send my first payment to someone?
First, you’ll need to enroll in Pay People. Then simply follow the instructions above under “How It Works” to send a payment.

When does the payment come out of my account?
Any time you send funds through Pay People, the money is debited from your account the day the payment is sent. If the recipient does not claim the money within 10 days, the money will be credited back to your account.

What do I need to do when I receive my first payment from someone?
If you are a Salem Five online banking customer with an eligible deposit account and a valid email address on file, the funds will be deposited directly into your account if you are already enrolled in Pay People.

How much does the service cost?
There is no cost for Salem Five personal account online banking customers to enroll in Pay People. To send funds to an email or mobile phone there is no cost.

How quickly will a payment be received?
If the recipient is enrolled in Salem Five’s Pay People, money can be deposited into their checking account in as little as one business day. If they are not a Salem Five customer with Pay People, the money can be received in 1-3 business days after completing the transaction and claiming the funds. The recipient has 10 days to claim the funds. If funds are not claimed within 10 days, a refund of the payment will be issued to the sender and the receiver is no longer available to claim the funds.

Can I cancel a payment after I send it?
You may cancel a payment only if the recipient has not claimed the funds or they were not automatically deposited directly into their bank account. Your contact will be notified if you cancel a payment via email.

What type of confirmation do I get that my payment has been received and accepted?
You may also see if the payment has been claimed by logging into online banking and selecting "Pay People" and then looking at Incoming and Outgoing activity.

How long does someone have to claim a payment?
The recipient has 10 days to claim the funds. If funds are not claimed within 10 days, a refund of the payment will be issued to the sender.

Will the recipient be able to see my account information?
No, the recipient will not be able to see any corresponding personal information from the sender including email address or bank account information. They will only see the name of the sender in the notification.

How is Pay People different than using Bill Pay to pay someone?
Salem Five's Bill Pay service within online banking is generally designed for paying bills like utilities, services, mortgages, etc. Sending a payment to an individual using the traditional Bill Pay service can take up to five business days to arrive to the recipient and you must know their full mailing address because it is sent by check. Pay People allows you to send funds electronically using only an email address, mobile number, bank account or debit card information of the person you wish to pay.

Can I use Pay People for payments outside of the United States?
No. Currently Pay People can only be used between bank accounts in the United States.
